New Logo!

My new card set designs (very temporarily) slowed down a tiny bit over the past few days, but that's simply because I've been working extra on moving closer to the eventual real/complete version of PinballBoy.com... That being said, it's time to start unveiling some goods for what this "official launch" holds for Pinball Boy! First off, I'm excited to share the official logo: so let's get right to it!... (the new logo can be seen at the top of the site!!!)

You may be wondering, "Why the heck do you need a NEW logo when you just started the site!?!"... Well, in all honesty, I liked the original PB "logo", but it was just a placeholder - I made it in about 10 minutes. It was too small, off-center, and the name of the site wasn't even the focus of the design. So really, it was just never actually meant to be what people identified with when they came to the site. The overall idea was there, but the execution was not what I wanted to be the final product.

Anyway, I know, it's just a logo, who cares? But really, this little logo will help push the eventual full version of this site and ideas of what I plan to bring to you all one step closer to reality. Plus, from my standpoint as a designer, logos are kinda fun and they tie a whole "brand/idea" together. The new logo will go live on the site today, and on card designs moving forward (the card designs feature a nice little ".com" addition so people know where they can grab the cards).

And so it's known, I'm currently eyeing a few options in late-February for the real launch. Honestly, I'd still call the entire site the "beta" version right now. The other big feature of the site is something I'm working tirelessly on to make awesome!

Until next time,
Chad

Game Of Thrones (Fix).

Super quick update. It was just now brought to my attention that the Game Of Thrones rule card sets had a spelling error (one of the Multipliers had a double-typed set of letters). Nothing huge, but my apologies - and I've just corrected the error on all three versions, and now they're all good to go via their respective download links!

(And as I always mention, if you see an error on a card (heaven freaking knows I'm only human, ha), please feel free to reach out. I'm a sucker for details, but sometimes these little things slip through the cracks - especially when you've been staring at a design for an hour!)

Until next time,
Chad

Easy On The Eyes.

Hey all,

Wanted to share a quick update to a somewhat small (but very user-friendly) change to the navigation of the site... If you have a look at the Rule Cards link, instead of just going to the "New Rule Cards" page, it now has a fancy little drop down menu that can take you to the following: New Cards!, Browse, Most Popular, View All Cards. I figured this was much easier then having to click on the Rule Cards link, then click on View All Cards at the bottom of that page... Plus I thought having the brand new Browse and Most Popular pages would be a good way to round out all the ways people can discover new cards for their machines.

I've also added a new page that is still somewhat of a work in progress. Under the Info link, you'll now see a page called "Printing Help". My goal is to eventually make this page a source for fixing any printing errors you may come across.

Until next time,
Chad

Pinball Boy Early Launch Stats!

Well, the site has been up and running for exactly two weeks as of yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the response so far! Above you'll find a graphic which includes the exact numbers the site has seen so far (along with a little feature of the first designs I've posted).

There are a few things to note here...

  1. When I started the site, I absolutely was not expecting these kinds of stats - no joke, I was going to be excited if 100 people ended up at the site in the first week. Obviously, you all blew my expectations out of the water!
  2. Some people may find it odd that I'm even sharing this info. To give you some insight though, if you go look at my music career, you'll see that I've always been extremely transparent with numbers and stats. I'm not sure why, but I just feel like I'm in this together with the people who allow me to create... So I like sharing these things that get me stoked on what I do.
  3. One thing I left off the infographic is something I'm also excited about. So far, in just 14 days, I've somehow managed to get 38 rule card sets posted! I say that not to brag, but as a credit to all of you who have kept me so constantly thrilled to be adding new designs as often as possible. And that's all been done in my free time (which I don't have much of - I do have a day job, and a two-year old, ya know!). As things progress here, I plan to dedicate even more time to the site to make it much much better.
  4. A sincere thanks goes out to those who have sent in donations. I've mentioned that I'm 100% glad to offer these designs and this site for free, and I whole-heartedly mean that - I will NEVER tell you all to donate, or care any less about those who don't. However, the donations are chipping away at the site costs already, and that's helping a ton!
  5. This is still all for the "soft" launch of the site! I've still been working from the shadows on all the other pieces I plan to add to PinballBoy. I'm hoping to have an "Official Launch" date ready to share with you all soon. I know I keep talking about it, and not sharing specifics, but I promise it's all going to be additions to the site and pinball community that I hope will be fun and put some smiles on some faces.

Lastly, come on, if you've been paying attention to these blog posts, you knew this was coming... THANK YOU! I can't stress how much creating this site and the designs, and giving back to the pinball world has honestly become one of the best parts of my day. I love this stuff, man! Seriously, this was all on a whim - I thought there was a large chance people would actually hate my designs since they're so different from a lot of what people are used to! So thanks again!

Until next time,
Chad

To LE, or Not to LE.

Man, I don't think I've ever made a pun as bad as the title for this post. Ha. Just wanted to make a note that up to now I've made three card sets specifically for LE (Limited Edition) versions of machines (The Rolling StonesMustangX-Men). Well, now people are asking for standard versions of those cards - and actually I meant to post Pro versions alongside the LE from the beginning, but kind of just forgot. So, from here on out, I'll post both versions at the same time when the opportunity arises.

For now, I've just added non-LE versions of The Rolling Stones, and Mustang for those wanting them! Enjoy!

Until next time,
Chad

P.S. - I plan on posting a cool little update to let you all see how awesome the site's doing so far thanks to all of you visiting - sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Size Does Matter.

Okay, this has now happened twice with machines from the pre-2000s era... See, when I'm designing, I choose card sizing from an excellent list that someone compiled for a large group of pinball machines from all eras. The thing I'm finding though, is while it is a great list, I don't believe it's 100% correct 100% of the time.

Anyway, I believe I've found the correct sizing for this certain era of pins that this issue popped up in (so hopefully we can avoid any errors from here on out). However, if you ever go to print a set of cards, and they don't fit right (they're noticeably too small, or too big)... Please feel free to get in touch and let me know! My goal here is not only nicely designed rule cards, but also making sure they look good on your machines! I don't want you having to use cards of mine that need a 1/4 inch white border around them to fit, or vice versa.

And like I said, this has only happened a couple of times, and I've completely switched out new correct design sizes asap both times. Also, it's only happened on older pins (where info isn't necessarily super-abundant around the web anyway). So with newer pins, you won't have to worry, but if you ever print off a set for a classy retro pin of yours and things are a bit off - let me know! I'm very very glad to make sure these cards are as perfect as possible for you and everyone else.

Until next time,
Chad

P.S. - For anyone wondering, the two sets this happened on where Bally - Dr. Dude, and Who Dunnit? - So if you printed them and wondered if they seemed a little off, you were right! Both have been fixed with new correct sizing!

One Of A Kind.

I've spoken about it on Pinside, but for those coming to the site from elsewhere I thought I'd share that for many titles, I'll be making several different versions of cards. Off the top of my head, here's the list I have planned that will have different featured versions:

  • Monster Bash (one for each Monster)
  • The Star Wars Trilogy (one for each original trilogy film)
  • KISS (one for each band member)
  • The Walking Dead (one for each popular character - plus a comic book version)

It'll take time for me to get different versions of a set up, because I'd like to grow my title list mainly first... But eventually I plan to have literally several different awesome versions for each title for you to choose from.

And I know I've said this in each post so far, but thanks to those of you visiting the site. Working on the site/designs each day has instantaneously become one of my favorite parts of my day. Feels so good to be finally giving back to the pinball community!

Until next time,

Old School.

A few people on Pinside mentioned that they liked how I was posting cards for newer pins as well as older ones. Just wanted to say that I'm so glad to finally be filling in the gaps that seemed to be vacant for so long! Seriously, I don't understand how some of these classic titles / characters don't have a ton of custom cards yet?? It's actually pretty astonishing to me. The thing is, the newer pins are always fun to design for, but the older ones are turning out to always be a challenge (and that's a good thing!).

Also, as you can see, I'm still updating daily... And don't plan on stopping anytime soon. So keep those requests coming! (My request list is pretty long, but there literally isn't a title I'm not excited to make for you all.) And in case you're keeping count, I'm pretty proud of how much I've been able to grow the card collection so far - I've added 18 new rule card sets since the site's launch just 4 days ago (WOOHOO!)! And this isn't even for the official launch! I'm still working on the official launch that will feature even more custom goods for your home arcade (or your business arcade)!

Lastly, thanks to those of you who have donated so far! Like I've said, this site isn't here to let me quit my day job, but eventually having the costs of the site covered would be a really great thing. And if you haven't donated and don't want to, don't worry about it! I'm 100% glad to offer all these 100% free :)

Until next time,
Chad

Night Owls

Well, I'm wrapping up another day of being totally surprised by the amount of you stopping by the site so far - thanks! Today I got a few more requests finished, Metallica (Pro), and Robocop (two versions), and things are still rolling along. I'm pretty glad to see the VIEW ALL CARDS page looking less pitiful in the numbers game now.

Anyway, the real point of this post is to let any who care know that I do have a day job (and a two year old), so I stay pretty busy during the day... So, if you're wondering when I'll usually update with new designs during weekdays, it'll usually be in the evenings. And I plan on adding new designs daily for the foreseeable future. So if you're a night owl, like me, feel free to stop by during the wee small hours of the morning (Hey! I'm listening to Frank Sinatra right now - see what I did there!?)... or if you're a morning coffee and surf the web kinda person, there's a good bet there'll be new designs waiting for ya. Oh, and weekends are free rein - I'll hopefully update a lot throughout the entire day then.

Lastly, like I've mentioned, this site will eventually be more than just rule/instruction cards. Those are the main purpose, but I do have some cool stuff planned for down the road that I haven't seen anyone else doing... I mean, come on, I am a designer and I work for a merch/screen-printing company - how could I not try and make some cool stuff happen??

Anyway, I'll set you all free into the night now. I'm off to turn into a proverbial potato whilst I watch some MST3K!

Until next time,
Chad

Wake Up Call.

Wow! I'll be honest, I'm pretty surprised by the response to the site so far! I was expecting a few eyes on the site this early, but the number I had in my head has literally already been tripled. So if you've stopped by, THANKS!... But also, please know, there's still a lot of growing for this baby to do.

Anyway, I just wanted to post a quick update to say that requests have started pouring in, and I should hopefully have the current Rule Card list doubled by Monday. And again, especially right now while I'm trying to build the rule cards available, be sure to shoot me a request if there's one you'd like to see!

Thanks,
Chad
